Immerse yourself in the musical legacy inspired by the historic city of Norba, nestled close to the birthplace of composer Onorio Zaralli in Norma.

This composition unfolds through various musical "pictures," spanning a total duration of 6'30:

Per viam, inter insulas: Immerse yourself in the chaos of the street, where people converge, merchants call out, women converse, and children play.

Apud Dianae templum: Transition to the temple dedicated to the goddess Diana, surrounded by the essence of the woods and hunting. The slow, ternary rhythm and "ancient" harmonies conjure a distant religious rite.

In tabernis:
Venture into the taverns where dice roll, bets are made, and curses abound. The writing intensifies, giving rise to swift counterpoints among the four instruments.

Salii arvali:
Witness a liturgy as priests dance to the irregular rhythm of 5/8, echoing an ancient tradition with historical roots.

Lux in umbra:
As the journey concludes, centuries and millennia pass, leaving behind a faint light in the darkness of history—a reminder of a shared distant origin.

History of Norba

"Civitas" is a Latin term, signifying a blend of city and civilization, thus Norbana Civitas encapsulates the essence of Norba's city and culture.

Zaralli utilized the Roman scale and harmony in this composition.
Transported to the 8th century B.C., Norba predates Rome, evolving into a Roman colony before meeting its fate in the 1st-century B.C. Civil War. Witness the resilient spirit as survivors established Norbana Cesarina in Spain, now the enchanting town of Caceres.

Explore Norba's ancient natural caves, echoing with remarkable acoustics—perfect settings for bringing ancient music or dramatic plays to life.
Immerse yourself in Norba Civitas music, a reflection of the composer's profound connection to Norba.
